WHAT TO EXPECT
Training at UX translates exceptionally well to real snow
Just like a first session in a gym, you may need some time to familiarise yourself with the Maxxtracks surface. Your first session is largely about familiarisation, determining your grading/training goals and getting used to the surface.
The surface is a high quality synthetic grass, similar to a thinly groomed run. You will find the bio-mechanic of skiing or snowboarding the same, but the surface tension and surface “forgiveness” is what differs most. The great benefit of learning or training at Urban Xtreme is that it translates exceptionally well to the snow or outdoor terrain.

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW (FAQ’S)
Are there any age restrictions?
Yes. To join a group session skiers must be at least 4 years of age and snowboarders must be at least 130cm. In a private session we can take younger children. It really depends on their size and confidence so bring them down and introduce them to one of our instructors!
What times are you open?
Please see the “Contact Us” tab for full details of open hours
Can I hire the ski slopes for a function?
Yes! You can hire either a single slope or both of the slopes for a private function. Up to 8 people can be booked on to a slope (or 12 if all participants are children).
What if I need to cancel an appointment?
UX rosters coaches when you book a session. Guests will lose their payment if they cancel within 24 hours. UX will move bookings to a new time with at least 24 hours notice.
What temperature will it be?
Our slopes are NOT cold slopes. UX generally ranges in the comfortable 20c to 30c range. We advise comfortable loose clothing appropriate for the time of year.
Can I get coffee and snacks at the site?
Yes. We have coffee and food facilities
Can I bring my own food and drink along?
Yes. You are welcome to bring any snacks or drinks you would like.
Is there any area to sit and watch?
Yes, we have seating and viewing areas near each slope and a small cafe.
What clothing do I wear?
Normal street clothes are fine, yet we recommend you wear something comfortable and loose-fitting. You must wear socks (preferably knee high) to go under your ski/snowboard boots. We have some for sale if you forget to bring your own. Singlets are not allowed. Shorts and T-shirts can be worn, however UX recommends a pair of longer loose fitting pants (no denim allowed). Loose jewellery will need to be removed.
Can I use my protective elbow and knee guards?
Yes we recommend wearing elbow and knee protection however the surface is soft and it’s not essential.
How long does a session last?
Each session runs for 1 hour. This includes approximately 30 minutes slope time and you will alternate on and off the slope during your session to provide rest times for all participants. Guests are encouraged to arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of their session for check in, equipment fitting and briefing time. Failure to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your slope time could result in lost time during your session. Please refer to our TERMS & CONDITIONS for more information.
How long will it take me to do basic turns and stops?
Skiers are generally able to turn and stop within the first 1 hour session. Snowboarding takes a little longer to learn the basics, but most people will be making their first turns in the second hour.
Are the lessons group lessons or private lessons?
We offer both mixed or private sessions. In a mixed session you will be matched with people of a similar ability. In a private session you have one-to-one tuition or bring other people (max 4) with you to share the session.
I have 5 skiing buddies that like to go away together skiing, but I think we are not all at the same level. How would that work?
We recommend making a group ‘slope booking’ for this situation. It is important to note that your session may be interrupted if you have different skill levels and one person frequently stops. Urban Xtreme ensures each customer is graded during their orientation and paired with other clients of a similar standard to avoid this situation in general sessions.
Do you cater for snowboarders?
Yes, we coach both skiers and snowboarders however they typically do not use the slope at the same time. Snowboarders must be at least 130cm.
Is it possible to learn different techniques or different snow conditions or terrain?
Yes. Urban Xtreme teaches you the correct skiing or snowboarding technique, but you will need to adapt your technique to the conditions on the snow at the time you are there. It should be noted that the indoor slopes cannot replicate the broad range of conditions that you will encounter on the snow.
I am a skier from way back, can you fix my bad habits?
Yes, we will break down your current technique and rebuild it. That is why we are here!
How many people are on the slope at once?
The number of people on the slope depends on several factors including skill & experience. There is a maximum of 3 people on the slope at a time.
How do the grading levels work?
